Yet to be is Larry Saklad, a former member of Alan Mann & the Free Arts Band and David Rowan & Exisdance – keyboards: both bands received airplay and widespread acclaim ‘77-‘91.
He began classical piano at age 6 and performed in Carnegie Hall at 10. By 13 Larry was hooked on songwriting and jamming on compact organ in Philly rock bands to the Doors, the Who, Beatles, Stones, Clapton, CSNY, Led Zep +. Learning guitar further inspired original songwriting; by HS graduation, Saklad was heard on local radio.
After working in others’ bands including Robert Hazard and Essra Mohawk, in ’93 Larry recorded Mann’s “Christmas on the Block” w/ Tom Basmajian AIPH, aired seasonally on WMMR by Cyndy Drue. 2013 WXPN’s Helen Leicht & “The Key” featured Saklad’s new rcdg w/ Kenn Kweder blues-harp. He’s again devoted to a unique talent as singer-songwriter. Writing, recording/mixing & playing ’round the clock since April ’06 full time, Larry is performing in support of his recordings, side projects & new writing. He performed-recorded recently in David Rowan’s band “Wet Pet”, also with Sacred Vibration (roots reggae)- Anthony Curry & both featuring Doug Grigsby bass.
First premiering as work-in-progress to great reception at World Café Live 4/16/05- the 2nd Annual Alan Mann Tribute, Saklad’s songs have received airplay on WXPN Philly Local, WSTW Hometown Heroes- Salt In My Coffee nominated for best folk/americana award, WCHE, WQHS, Voltaradio.com, YourLocalNote.com has 11 in rotation.
Spellbound is the new album, 10 songs digitally released 9/30/14, mix updates 3/3/15, and more than enough new recordings for the near future!
